Personalized funeral services in Southington, CT

close up of hand placing garnish on dessertLosing a loved one is an emotional and difficult experience. Whether you choose burial or cremation, a traditional religious funeral or a contemporary and upbeat celebration of life, we’ll help you design a service that’s as unique as the life it honors.

When you first meet with a funeral director, we'll ask questions about your loved one: what he liked to do, what she cherished, how he thought about the world, how she liked to spend time. You can provide inspiration with a memory of your loved one. From history to hiking, prize-winning roses to prize-winning roadsters, we take the things that mattered to that special person and weave them together to create a singular, heartfelt memorial. We're here to help tell the story of your loved one's life—or your own, if you are planning in advance.

Our chapel accommodates groups large and small in a space that can be arranged however you wish. Before or after a service, we can coordinate a reception. Whether it's a breakfast buffet, an ice cream social, or a full dinner, our team is experienced in catered events. We'll work with a local caterer to handle food and drinks, and we can help with decor and more. If it's an outdoor celebration you're seeking, we'll come up with something just right. Consider a late afternoon picnic with a band that plays into the evening, or a sailing-themed celebration complete with nautical pennants and guests dressed all in blue and white.

We'll take care of every detail so you can spend more time with the people you love.

Cremation options

If you're interested in cremation, we can explain the process and the different memorial and burial choices. From a direct cremation without a service or witness, to a full funeral service before or after the cremation, we'll help you understand this increasingly common decision.

A loved one's urn or ashes may be picked up at the funeral home, or we can deliver them to your home in person or by U.S. mail. We also offer cremation jewelry, which is a special way to keep the memory of a loved one close, and assistance with scattering ashes—from sending remains into space to letting them go at sea.

Planning ahead

We recognize that funeral arrangements and associated expenses can be overwhelming. By preparing these details ahead of time, you provide a sense of relief and comfort to your loved ones while ensuring your personal wishes are known. We can provide information or answer questions about pre-planning your funeral, cremation and cemetery arrangements.

Pet services

For many, pets are part of the family, and when a beloved companion animal passes, families who choose Della Vecchia have several caring options.

  • Private cremation: your pet is cremated alone; the cremated remains are returned to you.
  • Viewing cremation: your pet is cremated alone with you nearby in a witness room; the cremated remains are returned to you.
  • Individual cremation: your pet shares space in the cremation chamber with other pets, but each pet has a unique identification tag; your pet’s cremated remains are returned to you.
  • Communal cremation: your pet is cremated with other pets. No cremated remains are returned to you but rather they are scattered on private land by a member of our team.

History

Arthur C. DellaVecchia and his wife, Helen (Simone), believed that families should have a choice when it came to funeral arrangements. The area had other funeral homes, but the couple envisioned a business that was both elite and affordable. With that goal in mind, they opened their funeral home on Southington’s North Main Street in 1948. Families embraced them.

In 1967, the husband and wife opened a second location, in Wolcott, on Woodtick Road. Another expansion followed in 1987, when they partnered with D’Angelo Funeral Home of Middletown, CT.

The additional locations led Arthur and Helen’s son, David, to become a licensed funeral director and join his parents in serving the communities. Ten years later, their daughter, Adele, and her husband, Philip Fama, joined in the day-to-day operations.

After Arthur died in 2004, David and Adele took over their parents’ business. Today, DellaVecchia Funerals & Cremations in Southington and Wolcott are proud members of the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services in North America.
